Gene Brammer Obituary (1937 – 2022) – Maysville, KY

MAYSVILLE — Gene Brammer, 85, passed away on Sunday August 28, 2022, at the Hospice of Hope Care Center surrounded by his family.

Gene was born on April 11, 1937, to the late Flem and Erma (Muse) Brammer.

He retired from the Maysville Transit System, was the assistant fire chief of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department, and co-owned and operated Geno’s Taxi with his wife, Linda Brammer, for 26 years during his life.

Gene was an avid trader and collector of cars, knives, and University of Kentucky memorabilia, among other things. He was a die-hard UK fan through and through.

He thoroughly enjoyed going for a drive and traveling, especially to Tennessee. Gene was well-regarded by so many and was awarded the Pioneer award and named Kentucky Colonel twice.

Gene was most well-known for his abundance of love for all his friends and family that he cherished dearly. His children knew him to be a caring and loving father who had a natural ability to sense when something was wrong with one of them and would ensure time was made no matter the case.

Survivors include his loving, devoted wife of 59 years, Linda Brammer; his 8 children, Jeffrey Brammer, Sheila Brammer Sweet, Rita Brammer (AJ Bramlett), Pam (Rodney) Collier, Craig (Crystal) Brammer, Tracy Brammer, Melinda Jody (Robby) Cooper, and Eric (Angie) Brammer. His 12 grandchildren Kevin (Amy) Darnell, Caitlin Brammer, Kyle Sweet, Jessica Fowler Duke, Kody Sweet, Zachary (Caitlin) Brammer, Haley Cooper, Dawson Cooper, Kobey Gene Sweet, Carson Brammer, Rayven Walker, Trayven Walker, and Slate Brammer; two step-grandchildren, Dustin Bradford and Cassi Güverçin; his five great-grandchildren Gabby Darnell, Tyler Darnell, Houston Sweet, Beckham Brammer, and Myles Sweet.

He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Libby Brammer, Phyllis Dixon (Jerry) Cord, and Carlotta (Donnie) Stitt. His 12 nieces and nephews, Erma Vantine, Vickie (Earnie) King, Larry (Randi) Brammer, Sonny (Ann) Brammer, Jackie (Brenda) Brammer, Kenny (Sue) Brammer, Ricky Tucker, Terry Poe, Mike Poe, Mark (Raye) Dawn, Milton Hedges, and Debbie Hedges; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Flem and Erma Muse Brammer; his five brothers, Wardlow (Marie) Brammer, Prentice (Lorene) Brammer, Leon (Lillian) Brammer, Howard (Lucile) Brammer, Jackie Brammer; one sister, Mary Sallie (Robert) Frost; sister-in-law, Willma Brammer Haggard; son-in-law, Kevin Clark Darnell; daughter-in-law, Judy Hamm Brammer; two nieces, Betty Jo Keller and Virginia Frances Crawford. He is also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, William and Leona Tucker, and brother-in-law, William Gayle Tucker.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday August 31, 2022, at St. Patrick Church with Rev. Andrew Young as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church with vigil prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Darnell, Kyle Sweet, Kody Sweet, Kobe Sweet, Zachary Brammer, Carson Brammer, Dawson Cooper, Treyven Walker, and Slate Brammer. Honorary pallbearers will be Caitlin Brammer, Jessica Fowler Duke, Haley Cooper, Rayven Walker, Eric Bach, Ray Young, and David Hord.
